Surgery

Surgical treatment involves an operation to remove the tumour by a Surgical Oncologist. In many cases, depending on the type of cancer involved it is the best way of getting rid of the cancer.

By removing the whole tumour the surgeon hopes to stop the growth of further cancer cells. When it is first found, a tumour may be too large or difficult to remove, in this case chemotherapy may be used to make the tumour smaller and easier to remove.

All patients who are to have operations are sent to surgical wards where a large team of surgeons, doctors and specialist nurses are on hand to deal with all aspects of care.
